Amalia  Di  Girolamo

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Birmingham and an affiliated member of the Centre on Household Assets and Savings Management (CHASM). My research focuses on Education, Health and Pension Economics, with a particular interest in the empirical validation of economic theory. I make use of both field and laboratory experiments to investigate individual decision-making, drawing on the principles of Decision Theory to examine behavioural responses to policy interventions and institutional settings.

Prior to joining Birmingham Business School in 2013, I held a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship at Durham University (2011–2013). From 2008 to 2011, I was a Fulbright PhD visiting student at the University of Chicago’s Department of Economics, where I started my work on Field Experiments and developed a lasting interest in experimental approaches to applied economic research.

My ongoing research explores a range of policy-relevant topics, including the evaluation of educational programmes, the intersection of Health Economics and Behavioural Decision-Making, and saving for retirement choices. Through rigorous experimental and empirical methods, I aim to generate insights that contribute to both academic understanding and evidence-based policy design.
